Liberty Financial's new point man aiming to build up its client list.

BOSTON -- Liberty Financial Bank Group is the linchpin for services and products that Liberty Financial Cos. brings to financial institutions.

The bank group offers mainstream products like mutual funds and annuities. It also makes available products that are less-frequently requested, such as individual securities and unit investment trusts.

About 75 financial institutions -- one-third of them in the Northeast -- are clients of Liberty. David Walsh plans to play a pivotal role in increasing this client base (see accompanying dossier).

Liberty sold more than $1 billion of investment products through financial institutions last year.

The company's mix of offerings includes products from its affiliates. Among these are the Liberty Financial Funds, with $1 billion of assets in three bond funds and two equity funds.

Stein Roe & Farnham, which is owned by Liberty, manages the Liberty Financial Funds.
