Chemical upgrades cash management.

A Chemical Banking Corp. unit announced a cash management service that provides customer service staff with greater control over back-office functions.

BankLink Inc., the Chemical unit, introduced Bankers Workstation at the American Bankers Association's National Operations and Automation conference in New Orleans last week.

The Bankers Workstation lets back-office customer service staff access, on line, BankLink's computers, in order to view the status of transactions.

The system, which runs on a personal computer, allows banks that use Chemical's systems to easily customize cash management reporting for their corporate customers.

According to a bank spokeswoman, that means banks may be able to get the customers into their systems more quickly, fulfill requests faster, and increase the accuracy of back-office files.

The system automates, and puts on a single workstation, many labor-intensive functions, according to Chemical.

From a single PC, back-office staff will be able to view customer reports, track and reconcile depository transfers, view automated clearing house transactions, handle communications with customers via electronic mail, and send invoices.

The product will be made available in two phases - the first, slated for availability in the third quarter of 1993. will include the ability to enter new customers and run customer reports. The second phase, to be available in the first quarter of 1994, will allow bankers to use Microsoft Corp.'s Windows graphic user interface.
