Massachusetts Financial picks Lisa Jones to head bank effort.

BOSTON -- Massachusetts Financial Services has named Lisa M. Jones to head its financial institutions sales and marketing effort.

Jeremiah Potts, who formerly held the post. has moved up to a new job as director of marketing and sales strategy for the Boston-based mutual fund company.

Banks and thrifts are a significant sales outlet for Massachusetts Financial, which manages 48 mutual funds with $33 billion of assets. The company recently signed a contract to develop a mutual fund product line for sale through community banks belonging to the Independent Bankers Association of America.

The Family Business

Ms. Jones, who joined Massachusetts Financial in 1988, had been the company's sales manager for the Northeast region. She previously worked in the marketing department of E.F. Hutton in New York. It was there she met her husband, Dan, who is the Northeast sales manager for John Nuveen & Co.

"We run our own little financial workshop," she said with a laugh.

Ms. Jones says she wants to continue to commit resources to the bank distribution channel, but her first job is to tend to the recently awarded IBAA contract.

IBAA Agreement Comes First

"My top priority will be the IBAA, to make sure that flows smoothly, as well as to maintain the relationships we already have," she said.

She says Mr. Potts was a mentor during her stint heading up Northeast sales. He calls her a "top saleswoman."

Mr. Potts will work on new products and planning for all four distribution channels: financial institutions, the company's insurance sales force, independent insurance agents, and broker-dealers.

Massachusetts Financial employs 58 wholesalers for mutual funds and annuities, 11 of them dedicated to banks.
