Policy on loan-loss reserves expected.

WASHINGTON -- The bank regulatory agencies are expected to publish a policy statement this week on the setting of loan-loss reserves.

The statement, in the works for two years, is intended to clear up confusion among both examiners and bankers.

The agencies are likely to set reserve minimums needed for each class of troubled assets. When a bank's reserves fall below those levels, the bank will have to explain the shortfall.
