nxecutive director of Texas turnpikes to step down.

John B. Ramming, 62, has resigned as executive director of the Texas Turnpike Authority, effective July 1, 1994.

"I am ready to put my feet up," said Ramming, who plans to retire to his home in Sanibel, Fla.

Ramming said he handed in his resignation to the turnpike board at the Oct. 29 board meeting, giving the agency about eight months to find his replacement. The search for a new executive director has not begun yet, officials said.

"He is a fine man, and he has done a great job for the Texas Turnpike Authority," said board chairman Luther Jones.

Ramming became executive director on Oct. 1, 1990, after serving as general manager and general counsel for the toll road division of the Indiana Department of Transportation.

A lawyer, Ramming was also executive secretary of the Indian Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission from 1972 to 1974.
