J.P. Morgan & Co. was off 37.5 cents to $69.875, Citicorp was down 62.5 cents to $36.125, PNC Bank Corp. was off 37.5 cents to $28.375 and Wachovia Corp. slipped 62.5 cents to $34.25.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
