Deluxe Data is offering software to widen range of ATM functions.

Deluxe Data Systems Inc. introduced its new line of automated teller machine driving software at the Bank Administration Institute's Retail Delivery Systems conference.

The software is a response to bankers' desire to expand the range of transactions that customers can do through an ATM. Since the earliest ATM installations, few banks have been able to move transactions from the teller window to the ATM as effectively as they would like.

Many institutions are hoping to turn this trend around by wooing an ever-expanding group of ATM cardholders with a wider range of transactions.

Milwaukee-based Deluxe's upgraded Connex software helps banks achieve this automated service expansion by enabling ATMs to handle transactions such as stop payments on checks, statement printing, and dispensing of noncash items, such as stamps, coupons, and tickets.

The software also handles a range of ATM management functions, including research and exception handling and fault analysis.

In addition to making software, Deluxe also provides transaction processing services to many of the nation's electronic funds transfer networks.

As consolidation reduces the number of networks, experts said Deluxe's software will be an increasingly important part of its business.
