Washington State's Columbia to meld units.

TACOMA, Wash. - Columbia Banking Systems Inc. plans to merge its wholly owned units, Columbia Savings Bank and Columbia Bank, during the first quarter of 1994.

The company said Columbia Bank, its commercial bank, would be the remaining banking entity.

Columbia Banking Systems said the previous savings-bank branches will continue to offer its same services, and will include new products like senior citizen and holiday club accounts and cash management services.

The company said the proposed merger transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
