Meridian's top investment exec to retire.

Meridian Bancorp's top investment management executive, Robert C. Williams, plans to retire at yearend, the Reading, Pa., company announced.

As president and chief executive of Meridian Asset Management Inc., Mr. Williams, 59, oversees a subsidiary that manages $25 billion in trusts and investments on behalf of clients.

Mr. Williams joined American Bank, a predecessor of Meridian, in 1981 as executive vice president of the trust group.

In 1984, he supervised the organization of Meridian Asset Management. Its formation marked one of the first times that a bank had pooled trust services, investment, and brokerage activities under one roof.

An executive search firm has been engaged to recruit a replacement.
