Midsouth sees profits up 'substantially.'

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Midsouth Bancorp said it appears that fourth-quarter earnings will be "substantially above" its net income of $184,000 for the fourth quarter a year ago.

Additionally, the company said earnings for 1993 will exceed 1992 net income of $904,000.

Midsouth said loan and deposit growth has continued in the fourth quarter, largely because of marketing efforts.

Separately, the company said the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has released its subsidiary, Midsouth National Bank, from the formal agreement entered into by the bank with the OCC on June 27, 1991.

The action relieves the bank of several reporting requirements, allows it to be classified as "well capitalized," and removes a requirement that it obtain OCC approval prior to paying a dividend.
