Transamerica fund gets chief executive.

Thomas M. Simmons has been named president and chief executive officer of Transamerica Fund Management Co.

Mr. Simmons, who is currently executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Houston-based mutual fund company, will assume the new post on Jan. 1.

He succeeds Thomas R. Powers, who is retiring on March 31.

Mr. Powers, who is also the company's chairman, will continue in that post until his retirement.

Mr. Simmons, 40, joined Transamerica Fund Management in 1984 and has held several executive posts.

The company, with $3 billion of mutual fund assets, is a unit of Transamerica Corp., a $35 billion-asset financial services company.
