Citizens Bank of Massachusetts taps Straczynski.

Richard S. Straczynski has been named president of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, Plymouth. He had been executive vice president and head of corporate banking.

The bank is a subsidiary of Providence, R.I.-based Citizens Financial Group Inc., which is owned by Royal Bank of Scotland PLC.

Mr. Straczynski succeeds Philip D. Brown, who has resigned to take another job.

Robert C. Sanderson Jr., comptroller and senior vice president of Citizens Financial Group, has been named president of Citizens' Connecticut banking operations.

Mr. Sanderson will be based in New London, at the headquarters of the former New England Savings Banks, which was acquired by Citizens fro the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

He will be responsible for consumer and business banking activities at Citizens' 21 Connecticut offices of the former New England Savings Banks.

Mr. Straczynski joined Citizens in January as head of the bank's commercial lending division. He has spent most of his banking career in southeastern Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Citizens, he managed a $400 million commercial loan portfolio as regional president and co-chairman of the regional loan committee for Fleet Bank of Massachusetts.

He also has served as president and chief executive officer of Bank of New England South and as president and chief executive of Plymouth Home National Bank, where he began his banking career in 1968.

Mr. Sanderson joined Citizens as a credit and loan officer in June 1965. He was named regional vice president for branch administration in 1975; senior vice president and credit supervisor in corporate banking in 1980; senior vice president, corporate development in 1985; and group head for corporate planning and control in 1991. He was also chairman and chief executive officer of Gulf States Mortgage Co. from 1990 to 1991).
