Great Western sells $150 million of notes.

A $150 million issue of Great Western Financial Corp. senior notes was sold through a group led by Merrill Lynch & Co.

Due June 15, 1998, the notes were priced to yield 6.20%, 105 basis points over comparable U.S. Treasuries.

Noncallable for life, the issue is expected to be rated Baa2 by Moody's Investors Service Inc. and BBB-plus by Standard & Poor's Corp.
