2 arrested in shopping center ATM scam.

NEW YORK -- The Secret Service has arrested two men in connection with a scam in which an automated teller machine was placed in a Connecticut shopping mall to help thieves steal money from ATM cardholder accounts.

Federal law enforcement officials charged Alan Scott Pace, 30, and Gerald Greenfield, 50, with being involved in the crime, a Secret Service spokesman said.

The planted ATM was used to copy cardholders' account information and personal access codes in order to make counterfeit cards. ATM withdrawals were then made from banks all along the East Coast.

Banks have lost less than $100,000 from the scheme, a Secret Service spokesman said.
