DENVER -- U S West Inc. said it will completely eliminate its financial services businesses, which the telecommunications company calls its capital assets segment.
This group includes Financial Security Assurance, U S West Financial Services Inc., and U S West Real Estate. The company previously announced plans to sell the real estate and financial services units.
"This will enable us to redeploy capital for investment in expanding growth opportunities in our core [telecommunications] business," said Richard D. McCormick, U S West chairman and chief executive officer.
