Southern Cal sees largest rises in 1st quarter delinquencies.

Southern California took the biggest turn in seriously delinquent mortgages during the first quarter of 1993, registering seven of the top 10 nationwide cities with the largest increases in home loans either three months late or in forclosure. On the whole, California placed 16 of the nation's 86 highest percentage of delinquent home loans, according to Mortgage information Corp.

Although California had largest increases in the first quarter, the Northeast tallied the top eight overall markets with the highest percentage of loans 90 days delinquent.

The largest decreases from the previous year were broader in terms of nationwide representation. Among those showing improvements were three New England cities: New Haven and Fairfield, Conn., and Boston.
