Nordstrom cleared to issue Visa cards.

SEATTLE -- Nordstrom Inc. said it has received approval from Visa U.S.A. to offer Visa cards,

The Seattle-based retailer said it will begin issuing cards next spring through Nordstrom National Credit Bank of Englewood, Colo. The bank was formed in 1991 to run Nordstrom's private-label card program and take advantage of Colorado's liberal usury law.

While customers remain loyal to the Nordstrom brand, the Visa option will appeal to the growing number of people who prefer to use a bank card, said John Walgamott, president of Nordstrom's bank.
