Senate confirms Levitt as chairman of SEC.

WASHINGTON -- The Senate yesterday confirmed the nomination of former American Stock Exchange chief Arthur Levitt Jr. as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Levitt told Congress last week that he would not reach a conclusion about whether the municipal bond market needs additional oversight, including regulation of underwriter political contributions, until the SEC completes an ongoing inquiry into the matter.
