The major bank stocks were mixed, despite gains in the stock market overall on Monday.
In late trading, BankAmerica Corp. was off 50 cents to $44, J.P. Morgan & Co. was off 25 cents to $72.50, and Wells Fargo & Co. was down $1.625 to $114.
Among gainers, Citicorp was up 37.5 cents to $33.50, Bank of New York was up 62.5 cents to $55.125, and Wachovia Corp. was up 37.5 cents to $35.50.
Old Kent Financial Corp., up 87.5 cents to $33.50, had the biggest improvement of the day among banks. Other winners were Marshall & Ilsley Corp., which rose 50 cents to $23.25, and Shawmut National Corp., up 37.5 cents to $24.375.
