Boston's Liberty Financial recruits exec to run a sales unit.

Liberty Financial Co. of Boston, a leading marketer of mutual funds through banks, has named Reginald L. Truman to head its institutional sales unit.

As a vice president in the company's Liberty Financial Bank Group subsidiary, Mr. Truman will be responsible for expanding and strengthening relationships with financial institutions.

Worked for a Rival

The company currently markets investments products through 65 banks and thrifts.

Mr. Truman was recruited from Marketing One, a rival firm based in Portland, Ore. As vice president of sales, he was in charge of recruiting new accounts, retaining existing ones, and building sales in the western states.

A veteran banker, Mr. Truman started his career at First Interstate Bank California in 1968. He later worked at Mercury Savings and Loan Association.

Mr. Truman holds a bachelor's degree from Pepperdine University's School of Business and Management.

Liberty also named Paul G. Martins to the post of chief financial officer.

He is responsible for overseeing and managing finance, accounting, analysis, and information resources, among other areas.

Mr. Martins was hired away from Berkeley Financial Group, where he was controller.

He previously worked for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Alden Corrugated Container Corp.

He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Darthmouth.

Adrian J. Waters has been named managing director of Concord Management (Ireland) Ltd.

The company is a unit of Concord Holding Corp., the leading administrator and distributor of bank-managed mutual funds.

The Irish unit, based in Dublin, was established in 1992 to administer offshore funds.

Mr. Waters joins Concord from Price Waterhouse in New York. He was a manager in the accounting firm's investment company industry services group.

He will direct Concord's Dublin office and will report to Peter Marshall, the company's vice president for offshore funds.
