Fidelity Investments to acquire access to MuniView data.

Fidelity Investments has signed a contract with Muller Data Co. to receive a copy of the Bond Buyer's entire MuniView data base of municipal bond information.

Muller, which announced the arrangement Tuesday, said Fidelity is the first firm to contract for regular delivery of the municipal bond data base, which includes daily updates.

MuniView provides 120 bits of information for every bond it tracks. Pricing information derived from the data base is based on 25 different variables.

"Accessing the underlying data on which muni prices are based greatly facilitates our investment research," said Anne Punzak, a portfolio manager at Fidelity.

Debra Heffernan, executive vice president of the Bond Buyer's municipals group, said Muller Data provides clients with customized information suited for their portfolio or research needs. "But this is the first time that we are supplying a copy of the entire data base on a regular basis," she said.

Company officials declined to say how much Fidelity paid for the service.

Muller Data is wholly owned by the Thomson Corp., which also publishes The Bond Buyer.
