Central Bank unveils phone bill-paying.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Central Bank of the South, a unit of Central Bancshares of the South Inc., has introduced PayMate a new telephone bill-paying plan, to its customers in Alabama and Florida.

The company said the new PayMate service costs $3 a month, and personal checking account customers may apply at any Central Bank office in the two states.

Central Bank said a customer can list those accounts to be paid on a regular basis, such as department stores, utilities, and major credit card companies. Customers call in payments using the toll-free number, indicating the account number and the amount of the payment. The customer may also indicate automatic payments for recurring bills with fixed amounts, including mortgage and other loan payments.
