A Virginia bank is 32nd to fail this year.

WASHINGTON - New Atlantic Bank, Norfolk, Va., failed Thursday, bringing the total to 32 banks with $3.1 billion this year.

Its 2,300 deposit accounts, totaling $15.3 million, were assumed by Bank of Hampton Roads, Chesapeake, Va.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is stuck with $8.3 million of the failed bank's $15.1 million in assets. The agency advanced $4.8 million to help Bank of Hampton Roads buy $7.8 million of New Atlantic's assets.
