Hawthorne Financial Corp., Hawthorne, Calif., said its chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Vernon D. Herbst, has relinquished his position as president and CEO of its savings and loan unit.
The company said the action is a move toward Mr. Herbst's retirement later this year.
M&I THUNDERBIRD Bank, Phoenix, a subsidiary of Marshall & IIsley Corp., Milwaukee, has appointed Linda S. Gonshak to vice president, branch manager at two locations; Rose Spor to customer service officer; Corina Whipple to branch manager; Jeanie K. Morrison to vice president, corporate services representative, in retail administration, and Mark J. Sterr to vice president of commercial audit supervision and loan services.
Also, Silvia M. Hejna has been promoted to vice president of legal relations and corporate secretary; David S. Matthews to vice president and commercial lender, loan administration department; and Kathleen D. Novak to staff officer, assistant corporate secretary, and secretary to the chairman-president.
S.R. Butler has joined the bank as vice president, commercial loan officer.
Mr. Butler was previously a vice president and manager at Valley National Bank.
