Price Waterhouse blends methods.

Price Waterhouse, Dallas, has introduced software that uses a scanner and optical character recognition to automate the data entry of information on check stubs and remittance advice documents.

The software, called PW-Acrue, combines three technologies: scanning, which transmits the images from check stubs or statements into a personal computer; optical character recognition, which allows the PC to understand the images on the checks as numbers and letters; and translation control, through which the system selects and processes the information it needs from each check.

PW-Acrue runs under DOS or Windows 3.1 operations systems.

It can be used either as a stand-alone unit or on a local area network.
