Unisys matching system to Carreker's software.

Unisys Corp. will upgrade its check processing system to integrate it with software sold by J.D. Carreker and Associates.

The companies will jointly market the products to banks, including members of the Electronic Check Clearing House Organization and Unisys item-processing users.

The check sorting equipment and software is expected to make it easier for banks to participate in the clearing house group, an association of banks hoping to speed check clearance and reduce fraud by sending data to each other electronically.

Financial institutions typically use the check presentment software to minimize fraud risk and float expenses.

The software controls the flow of information into the demand deposit account system, manages electronic-to-paper reconciliation, and integrates electronic check technology into back-office systems, such as item processing.

Unisys' item processing system handles all check processing functions, including sorting, balancing, reject reentry, and check distribution.

J.D. Carreker and Associates provides consulting services and software systems out of its Dallas headquarters and offices in New York, California, and Florida. It is currently a consultant to the Electronic Check Clearing House Organization.

Unisys Corp. is based in Blue Bell, Pa.
