Bank Atlanta promotes Richardson to president.

M. Purdy Richardson has been elected president and chief executive officer of Bank Atlanta, Decatur, Ga.

Mr. Richardson had been acting president since January, following the resignation of Donny Jackson, who returned to accounting.

William E. Zachary continues as chairman of the board. The bank's primary market is the Decatur-Emory-Toco Hills areas of Dekalb County.

Mr. Richardson's 27-year career in banking has been spent for the most part in DeKalb County. He was a vice president at Peachtree Bank of Chamblee. After that institution was acquired by the Trust Company Bank, Atlanta in 1984, he was appointed senior vice president for Trust Company's Albany division. He joined Bank Atlanta in 1989 as senior vice president and senior loan officer.
