Premier projects a 35% gain in profits.

BATON ROUGE, La -- Premier Bancorp Inc. said it expects third-quarter income of at least $17 million, or 60 cents a share, up 35% from a year ago.

The company said it expects to report income of "slightly" more than $48 million for the nine months ending Sept. 30, a 60% increase over its earnings of $30,237,000, or $1.17 a primary share, for the comparable period last year.

The nine-month projection excludes the $44 million gain from recording deferred tax assets in the first quarter, according to Premier Bancorp.

The company reported earnings of $12,615,000, or 49 cents a primary share, for the 1992 third quarter.
