Moody's Investors Service last week launched a regional publication, which in its debut focused on the credit quality of school districts in Ohio.

Moody's Regional Perspective explains analytical concepts that affect the financial operations of school districts, including state funding mechanisms, voter-approved local funding, and general fund balances, according to Paul Devine, a vice president and assistant director of the Great Lakes regional rating group.

The publication also highlights specific rating analyses to illustrate how the analytical concepts affect individual issuers, Devine said.

Future issues will highlight other credit-related topics with a regional focus, such as counties in a particular state, Devine said. No publication schedule has been set.

Moody's rates about $1 billion of debt issued by 150 Ohio school districts.
