Fidelity lures Madden back from Dreyfus.

Edward E. Madden returned to the Fidelity Investments fold May 2 as executive vice president of Fidelity Management Trust Co. and a director of the Boston-based financial services giant.

Mr. Madden, who worked for Fidelity's trust unit from 1983 until 1987, had been president of the Dreyfus Trust Co. since March 1992.

Upon completion of Mellon Bank Corp.'s purchase of Dreyfus Corp., Dreyfus Trust Co. is slated to become a nonbank subsidiary of Mellon. That deal, approved by federal regulators on Thursday, is expected to close by July.

Mr. Madden is also a veteran banker who was senior managing director and co-founder of the Chemical Banking Corp.'s investment group from 1987 to 1990.

From 1978 until 1983, he served as a group executive at Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mr. Madden started his career at International Business Machines Corp., where he worked in sales and marketing for 14 years.

Fidelity Management Trust Co., which has about $21 billion in assets, manages money for foundations, endowments, major institutions and retirement funds.
