Citibank, Bell Atlantic ink deal to enhance interactive banking screen phone service.

Citibank has signed an agreement with Bell Atlantic to enhance the screen phone services it is introducing to Washington, D.C. area customers as part of a service the bank calls Direct Access Banking.

This is the third time the Citicorp unit has teamed with a regional bell operating cmpany to provide this service in a major market.

Direct Access Banking is an interactive, on-line financial service that allows Citibank customers to pay bills, transfer funds, review transactions, open new accounts, and perform many other banking transactions from their homes, offices, or elsewhere.

Customers access the service either through a screen phone made by Philips Home Service Inc. or a personal computer with modem.

Citibank first introduced Direct Access Banking in New York The bank joined Ameritech in Chicago this past June to introduce the service in the greater Chicagoland area.
