Coastal Federal of S.C. in pact with AT&T unit.

Bank has signed a five year deal for AT&T GLOBAL Information Solutions to provide relational data base technology to consolidate information about the bank's products and services.

The contract is valued at $2 million.

The AT&T unit and Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based Coastal Federal have a longstanding relationship. Over of the past decade, Coastal Federal has contracted with AT&T Global or its earlier incarnation, NCR Corp,, for in-house technology as well as outsourcing services.

Coastal Federal is running its data base on an Oracle platform. This data base will give bank executives the capability of reorganize customer information to target market niches more efficiently and evaluate sales productivity.

According to John Weimerskirk, sales manager for AT&T's Southeast-sector data services, the outsourcing relationship also enables Coastal Federal to take advantage of rapidly changing technology without having to invest direct in it.

"Coastal Federal anticipines reducing expenses and increasing productivity through this arrangement," Mr. Weimerskirk said. "The primary cost savings comes from eliminating the need to invest in inhouse information processing equipment."
