First Chicago ends ATM expansion.

First National Bank of Chicago has completed its expansion of its electronic banking program, having purchased nearly 100 Interbold i series automated teller machines.

Almost half of the units are installed in various retail locations, such as Walgreen's drug stores and McDonald's restaurants. First Chicago also replaced several of its older ATMs in downtown Chicago. Its most recent installation consisted of 27 Interbold interior walk-up ATMs and 10 cash dispensers. The bank now operates more than 375 ATMs in the Chicago area - nearly double the number it operated three years ago.

Many of First Chicago's new ATMs feature electronic data capture for paper-free transaction information storage, software for in-house machine supplies replenishment, Interbold's PC-based processor, and custom color screens.

Interbold is the ATM joint venture between Diebold Inc. and International Business Machines Corp.
