Charles T. Russell, Visa International's recently retired chief executive, was named a director of First USA Inc.
The Dallas-based company issues cards through First USA Bank in Delaware and operates a sizable merchant processing business out of Dallas.
John C. Tolleson, chairman of First USA and a member of Visa's international and U.S. boards, said Mr. Russell would contribute "superb insights" from 30 years in the business.
Mr. Russell had previously joined the board of First Data Corp., the Hackensack, N.J., processing organization that works closely with bank card associations. He is also on the board of visitors of the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz School of Business.
Also joining the First USA board is Carl Westcott, chairman and chief executive officer of Westcott Communications.
