Jacksonville-based First Union National Bank of Florida is the nation's 12th largest bank based on assets of approximately $30 billion and 491 statewide offices. The bank is a subsidiary of First Union Corp., Charlotte, N.C.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
