1st Hawaiian gets media loan chief.

First Hawaiian Bank, Honolulu, has named Barbara S. Tomber senior vice president and manager of the newly created Media Finance Division.

Ms. Tomber will oversee the bank's lending to broadcasting, cable television, and publishing companies, focusing on business expansion plans.

Ms. Tomber was previously senior vice president and manager of the credit administration area at the Bank of Hawaii, also in Honolulu. Prior to that, she was vice president of the Media/Communications Finance Group.

First Hawaiian is trying to diversify lending operations both geographically and by industry, said John K. Tsui, the bank's president and chief executive.

Ms. Tomber expects that the business will grow quickly. "We could get a good base fast," she said.

In her first week, she said, there already were a good number of deals for this expanding business on her desk.

Media finance is a new business for the bank, Ms. Tomber said.
