1st Bank System, Circle K in big ATM pact.

MINNEAPOLIS -- First Bank System and the Circle K Corp. on Wednesday announced one of the largest placements of automated-teller machines.

The Minneapolis-based holding company and the national chain of convenience stores signed a multimillion agreement with AT&T Global Information Solutions to install 1,100 ATMs in Circle K's in seven states.

Installation in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, and Louisiana will begin in August of this year and end in 1995.

"This agreement more than doubles the number of ATMs that we operate and fits in well with our strategic focus of providing electronic transaction processing for consumers and merchants," said Philip G. Heasley, vice chairman of First Bank System.

First Bank System is the 10th-largest bank owner of ATMs in the country, and the fifth-largest provider of merchant processing services.
