SCBA launches school for loan officers.

The Savings and Community Bankers of America has started a new school designed to teach loan officers how to reach minority borrowers.

The Minority Loan Officer Development School is a series of classes for either new employees or those who need additional training. The first session, which focuses on applicant interviewing and loan processing, is being held this week, from Nov. 16 to 18 in Fairfield, conn.

Future classes will cover community outreach activities, designing loan products, and secondary-market options.

"The top priority for our industry is to improve effective communication with minority groups and match your financial services to their needs," said Thomas Pinkowish, executive director of the SCBA's Community Lending Institute in a letter to potential students.
