Fleet's Sarles elected chairman of Consumer Bankers group.

H. Jay Sarles, vice chairman, Fleet Financial Group, Providence, R.I., has been elected chairman of the Consumer Bankers Association, Arlington, Va.

William E. MacDonald 3d, president and chief executive officer of National City Bank, Cleveland, Ohio, was named chairman-elect for 1994-95.

New members elected to the CBA board are Linnet F. Deity, chairman, president, and chief executive officer, First Interstate Bank of Texas; A. Jay Meyerson, executive vice president, Keycorp, Cleveland; W. Doug King, executive vice president, Wachovia Corp., Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Craig J. Kelly, senior vice president and director of corporate marketing, Banc One Corp., Columbus.

The association was founded in 1919 to provide a progressive voice for the retail banking industry. It represents 750 federally insured bank and thrift institutions.
