British cite Visa for service quality.

Visa International received a service quality award from the British Standards Institute.

Visa's electronic payment processing SuperCenter in Basingstoke, England, met the high standards of excellence necessary to win this award, known as the ISO 9000 benchmark. The processing center began the necessary steps toward the ISO certification in 1993.

The award goes to organizations that the demonstrate a clear commitment to quality in delivering and continuously improving services.

"This quality initiative reinforces Visa's ongoing commitment to providing members with high caliber payment processing solutions," said William Chenevich, group executive vice president of the San Francisco-based card association.

The British Standard Institute will conduct regular audits to ensure the award performance criteria continue to be met.

The Basingstoke center and its U.S. twin in McLean, Va., form the nerve center for Visa's payments processing business.
