Danyl Corp. introduces 'rechargeable' card.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. - Danyl Corp., a builder of smart-card-reading devices, has introduced Pursecard, the first in what it says will be a series of cards that can be replenished when their stored value runs out.

The "rechargeable" cash substitute is designed for multiple-application prepaid card programs that might include food and beverage vending, laundry services, games, amusements, reprographics, pay telephones, and point of sale terminals.

In the initial edition of 50,000, the PurseCard has icons on the face depicting the various uses. About 3,000 of the cards were issued for the self-service laundry of a midwestern college, and others are slated for use at prisons, corporate and university campuses, and laundromats.

The cards with embedded computer chips are manufactured by Gemplus Card International of France. Danyl and Gemplus have worked on electronic purse programs with Electronic Payment Services Inc. and Visa International, among others.
