TCF seeks paperwork to speed up loan approvals.

TCF Mortgage Corp. wants more mortgage paperwork from its borrowers.

The Minneapolis lender will launch a new program this week encouraging home-loan seekers to present more comprehensive documentation with their loan applications.

By bringing in a sheaf of documents related to income, employment, and credit, borrowers on the "Express Yourself" program can get a loan approval in less than a week, said Len Kloeber, a TCF senior vice president. Usually, it takes 25 to 30 days.

Better documentation means TCF can cut down on processing time and costs.

Comprehensive documentation is not revolutionary - such programs have been available through Freddie Mac and Fannie Mac for some time.

But TCF's new campaign is another example of how lenders are scraping about to create lending business now that refinance volume has dwindled substantially.

Mr. Kloeber said TCF will advertise the new program.
