WASHINGTON -- Two Repulicans are asking their House colleagues to support a Senate provision that would delay the effective date of interstate branching until June 1, 1997.
Rep. Michael N. Castle of Delaware and Rep. Craig Thomas of Wyoming said it would be unfair to begin branching in 18 months, as the House bill would, because states need more time to decide whether to participate.
Many state legislatures, they noted, meet only part of the year and some meet only every other year.
