Barnett offers POS feature on ATM cards.

Capitalizing on a growing national trend, Barnett Banks Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., has introduced a point of sale debit feature for its bank cards.

The ATM Card Acceptance service will allow small businesses to accept Barnett's automated teller machine cards as a form of payment.

Rolly Power, senior vice president Barnett Merchant Services Corp., said that since March a group of merchants, from dry cleaners to doctors, have embraced POS acceptance. He expects 15% to 20% of Barnett's merchant base--more than 20,000 in Florida and Georgia-to begin accepting ATM cards at the point of sale within a year.

$10'000 Prizewinner in Amex Sweepstakes American Express Travel Related Services Inc. announced a grand prize winner in a national sweepstakes to promote its Gift Cheques program and raise money for a national youth development program.

Houston's Pat Jones won $10,000 in American Express gift checks as the grand prize winner of the sweepstakes.

The program marked the second year the American Express Gift Cheques program has raised money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of American. During the promotion, Nov.15 through Dec.31, 1993, American Express donated $1 to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters for each purchase of gift checks, for a total $100,000 donation.
