Council on International Banking starts on-line product data service.

The U.S. Council on International Banking has introduced an on-line product information service for use by its members.

The new service wil provide information about hardware, software, and other products and services of importance to the international banking community. Some of the products that will be posted on the electronic bulletin board include software to handle money transfers, letters of credit, international trades, collections, and securities and treasuries operations.

"We had attempted four or five years ago to put together a directory of suppliers -- on paper. The problem was that the data was too out-of-date by the time we could distribute it to our members," said Dan Taylor, president of the council. "Now, with electronic delivery of the information, we can speedily get this information out to our members."

The council's "Vendors Information" service allows vendors and suppliers to create information about their products on a personal computer and upload that information to the council's electronic bulletin board. Council Members can then download the information.

Search Functions

The member's software also features search functions that allow users to pinpoint the information they desire. For example, users interested in money transfer software could limit the search to those key words.

Some of the companies that have signed up to list their products and services on the bulletin board are Montran Corp. and International Financial Systems, both suppliers of money transfer software; and Kapiti Inc., which supplies trade finance and funds transfer software.

Several dozen vendors are expected to provide information over the system during the next three months, Mr. Taylor said.
