Boatmen's names president, vice chairman.

ST. LOUIS -- Boatmen's Bancshares has promoted two senior executives in its holding company, freeing up chairman and chief executive Andrew Craig 3d to scout for new opportunities.

The company promoted Samuel Hayes 3d to president, and named mergers chief Gregory Curl to succeed him as vice chairman. Mr. Hayes will continue to run the company's profitable lead bank. Mr. Curl will oversee many of the entities whose acquisition he guided.

"It was time for me to spread some responsibility around," said Mr. Craig. "This will give me more time to look for opportunities to expand this franchise and make it more profitable."
