SCC Resources offers check imaging service.

SCC Resources Inc. -- formerly Sandusky Computer Center -- is offering image check statements to its community bank clients.

The Sandusky, Ohio-based service bureau, a subsidiary of First Citizens Banc Corp., has installed an imaging system from AT&T Global Information Solutions -- formerly NCR Corp. -- and Document Solutions Inc., which allows bank clients to provide their customers with reduced images of cleared checks, printed by check number on a standard size sheet of paper. The image statements replace traditional monthly statements containing actual checks.

Two Ohio banks, Citizens Banking Co. of Sandusky, and Castalia Banking Co. in Castalia, have signed up for the image statement service.

Time and Cost Saver

SCC Resources processes for 12 other banks, some of which may also provide image statements, said company officials.

The imaging system uses an NCR image item processor and application software from Document Solutions. It's designed to cut processing costs and reduce the time it takes to prepare statements, sort checks, and research customer inquiries, said AT&T officials.

Jim Miller, senior vice president of Citizens Banking Co., said the benefits of imaging include timely statement preparation, improved researching of customer inquiries, and cost savings from reduced postage.

The $280 million-asset bank, which services 12,000 accounts, started sending out the first image statements in April.

"Giving community banks the option of offering an image statement instead of mailing out canceled checks not only saves postage, but helps provide the bank a competitive advantage," said LeRoy Link, president and chief executive of SCC. "This new imaging system will help us better service our customers -- the banks -- who, in turn, can better serve their customers."
