Spectrem to open office in Chicago.

Spectrum Group, a consulting firm that specializes in trust and investment products, plans toopen a Chicago office on June 1.

The firm, which has offices in San Francisco and Red Bank, N.J., has named a veteran banker, George H. Walper Jr., to oversee the new operation.

Mr. Walper has spent 14 years at Harris Trust and Svings Bank, most recently as a senior vice president. Earlier, he was a trust officer at Northern Trust Co.

As consulting director, Mr. Walper will focus on helping banks develop and market institutional trust services, such as 401(k) plans.

Amy Errett, chief executive officerof the Spectrum Group, said Mr. Walper brings to the post a practical knowledge of employee benefits combined with proven strengths in business strategy.
