PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Household International Inc. said its consumer banking and mortgage subsidiary agreed to buy 26 Chicago-area branches of First Nationwide Bank.
Household, which did not disclose terms of the purchase, is buying the offices from First Madison Bank, a thrift company that recently agreed to acquire the assets and liabilities of First Nationwide from Ford Motor Co.
The Chicago-area offices will come with about $1.3 billion in deposits, pending regulatory approvals and completion of First Madison's acquisition.
