Clifford, Altman face $55M civil suit.

WASHINGTON -- Lawyers and accountants trying to recover money for depositors of Bank of Credit and Commerce International have filed a $55 million civil lawsuit against Robert Altman and Clark Clifford.

Mr. Clifford and Mr. Altman, who are no longer under federal criminal charges, had "an irreconcilable conflict of interest" because they served as lawyers for both the failed BCCI and for First American Bankshares, according to a Washington Post report.

Mr. Clifford, a former First American chairman, and Mr. Altman, who was its president, were sued in federal court for the District of Columbia.

First American was found to have been secretly controlled by the Luxembourg-based international bank.
